25km Expedition – Venture Unit (19th & 20th December)

Although this short expedition was organized for all the Unit members, it was mainly intended to train new members in the unit for a longer expedition and test their endurance in a long hike with heavy backpacks.  The Ventures had to carry all the general equipment (tents, stoves etc.,) together with their personal equipment.  The Unit met at our HQ at 10.00hrs and after a kit inspection, by the AVSL and ASL Mario Micallef, moved out at 12.00hrs on a 9km journey towards Dingli.

All three new members of the Unit had to plot and lead the other members along the route. Upon arriving at Dingli the Ventures pitched their tents and prepared dinner.  During the night the wind picked up and the next day turned out to be very windy (NW force 7) with heavy rain.  Consequently the route was slightly shortened.  On passing the Ta’ Qali picnic area the Unit joined the human fleur-de-lys organized by the Mosta Scouts group in aid of l-Istrina.
