This year’s annual summer camp was held at the Rinella Scout camp site between the 2nd and 10th August.
19 members of the troop participated alongside the venture unit and the cub section. Members enjoyed using the group’s brand new Kayaks following a training session given by Alex Rizzo, a well experienced kayaker. 5 members of the troop also obtained their canoeist badge. The section tried their hand at fishing and the fisherman’s badge was also awarded to a number of scouts. All fish caught were released. Observers and Jobman’s badges were also worked upon. The troop practiced tent pitching and participated in other organized activities. The troop which was split into patrols, competed amongst each other for best camp organization, best creative art as well as competitive swimming games.
The venture unit this year constructed an assault course using an array of pioneering work. The course proved to be an excellent physical test for the older ventures who paraded their skills to their younger counterparts. The ventures gave a helping hand in the overall organisation of the camp as well as taking leading roles in the games organised.
The cubs, who joined the camp on Tuesday 4th August, enjoyed swimming, playing water games and doing crafts. Amongst the interesting crafts performed by the cubs was a knots display board and a small papier-mâché piggybank.
As usual the beavers enjoyed their one day camp experience doing crafts and playing games organised by their leaders.
A highlight of this year’s camp was a visit by His Excellency Archbishop Paul Cremona who after touring the site with the GSL dedicated some time to each section. The ventures proudly explained their assault course, the troop explained tent building while the cubs showed his Excellency their knowledge in knotting techniques. Patrol leader Denise Cassar and venture Mathew Cremona represented their respective sections in welcoming His Excellency on behalf of their section.
The camp came to an end with a massive camp fire on Saturday.
